Why Atheism Is Anti-intelectual
Proud atheists are (the worst kind of) pseudo-intellectuals.
Their so-called intellectual prowess stems from disbelief. From the fact that they are so enlightened to believe that there is no God, as painted by religious figures.
Well no shit. You don't have to be a genius for that.
The more they look down on those who do have faith, the dumber they are in reality.
But I'm not writing that from the perspective of a religious zealot. I'm just stating the obvious. God, the heavens and the angels as painted by the church, in my case, the catholic church, is indeed a fairy tale.
Congratulations, atheist, you have realized the above, and you have achieved the critical thinking and spatial awareness of a smarter-than-average toddler!
On the other hand, the true intellectual is deeply troubled by the fact that he already knows that there is no God. He wishes he could, because in God lies meaning.
"God is order in a universe where the only constant is disorder."
Mind you, it is indeed possible that the religious zealous is as low IQ as the pseudo-intellectual (I doubt it), but at least he can be content with life and can find meaning effortlessly, which is a truly enviable, pragmatic way of living. Finding meaning is not a simple task by any means, for those on the higher side of the IQ curve.
The pseudo intellectual atheist, however, finds meaning in looking down upon existence. If we can call that meaning at all. How depressing can that be?
A God fearing man is civilized, not because he so desires, but because he fears God. And that is a civilizational.
So… what is the correct position?
The only correct position for a true intellectual is rational theism. The belief that there's intrinsic meaning to life. In whatever shape of form. The intellectual knows that religion (apart from one very particular variant) is a net positive to society. He wishes he could have the faith of the blind follower at the bottom of the normal curve.
Mind you… Any rational theist has at some point been a pseudo-intellectual atheist.
The difference is that the true intellectual has come full circle.
He has experienced and lived through total meaninglessness, so now, he wishes to believe. Perhaps, as time goes by, and his days grow shorter. He will once again believe without a doubt.
