How to Get Rich

What is philosophy if it's not useful to my dear readers?
It's trash!
So today I want to teach you something very important…
And it is none other than:
How to get rich!
Why Should You Become Wealthy?
It is in fact your moral duty as a man to become as wealthy as possible.
It is your life calling and divine duty to provide: for your offspring, for your woman, for your parents, and everybody else that you love!
The above is the only morally acceptable reason why you should become wealthy.
If you want to be wealthy for validation, the adoration of your peers, or your own insecurity, please unsubscribe, as I want nothing to do with you! (If you spot the contradiction I will Venmo you $100.)
Anyway…
The Formula
Here's my objectively infallible formula for wealth:
Wealth = Value × Scale
The more value you provide to a greater number of people, the wealthier you will become.
What Is Value?
An easy way to look at it is that value is anything that moves humans closer to their core desires. Here's an excerpt from my marketing book:
SAINT J'S 12 CORE HUMAN DESIRES
- Better Health: Everyone wants to live longer.
- More Money: Everyone wants more money.
- More Time: Everyone wants quick and easy solutions that save time.
- Beauty: Everyone wants to look better, be in shape, and look healthier and younger.
- Admiration: Everyone wants to be admired by their peers.
- Self-Improvement: Everyone wants to be better and to feel personal accomplishment.
- Comfort & Luxury: Everyone wants a nice car, a nice home, and good schooling for their children.
- Social Validation: Everyone wants to be accepted by their peers.
- Superiority (Socially, Economically, Intellectually): Everyone wants to feel superior relative to their peers and their past selves.
- Career Advancement: Everyone wants to climb the corporate ladder or run a successful business.
- Enjoyment of Food, Beverage, & Earthly Pleasures: Everyone wants to enjoy good food, travel, experiences, and so on.
- Security: Everyone wants to be safe and free from danger, theft, accidents, and death.
If you want to make it in business, you need to be completely aware at all times of your prospects' (potential clients, employers, partners) core desires.
Because most — if not all — of their actions will be rooted in the subconscious desire to attain them.
What Is Scale?
Scale is simply the number of people you can reach and provide value to.
When you provide a lot of value to a lot of people, wealth follows.
Two Examples
Let's look at old Billy Gates. He bought an operating system from some dude in Seattle for pocket change, sold IBM a license, then sold the same license to every other computer maker on earth. Ta-da!
Billy Gates's software is now serving MILLIONS of enterprises that employ millions of white-collar workers across the entire world, saving them time, making them money, providing self-improvement. Those workers in turn provide more value to millions of clients, contractors, you name it. Mr. Billy Gates's chain of value is immense, and so is his scale.
That is, dear reader, why Bill Gates is insanely rich… and why your cranky old neighbor, who's always complaining about everything and anything and provides ZERO value to society, is NOT!
Another example.
Let's say you want to open a burger joint. Your ambition is to serve your village of 100 people.
You provide them with value (you save them time, provide enjoyment of food and beverage, earthly pleasures, and so on).
You will make some money. But not as much as the guy who figures out how to make burgers at a massive scale and serve millions and millions of customers every day.
That's what Ray Kroc of McDonald's did, and chances are you've eaten at least one Big Mac in your lifespan.
Balancing the Two
Now, the two variables trade against each other.
Let's say you want to sell gum. It costs $1 per pack. Or you want to sell 7-figure government contracts.
The more value you provide, the less scale you need. So balance it out according to your own strengths.
So, my dear reader, now you can look at whatever you are building and ask two questions: how much value does it deliver, and to how many people?
A Quick Note for the 9-to-5ers
You're basically screwed, because you trade time for money, and your time is limited.
You only have eight work hours per day and 40 hours per week. You will NEVER become wealthy by trading time, because the amount of value will never reach a critical escape velocity in scale.
There are exceptions, obviously — commission-based sales roles, or an executive seat at a unicorn.
But those are exceptions because they smuggle in ownership: a percentage of the deal, a slice of equity. Without ownership you can generate enormous value and still never capture it.
Trust me, I've been fucked this way!
TL;DR
Getting rich is a combination of the following:
- Have a keen eye for market opportunities — trends, unmet needs, things you can do better than anyone
- Focus on providing value (fulfilling your prospects' core desires)
- Find a way to scale it as much as possible (regionally, internationally, globally, and so on)
And always keep in mind:
- Ownership is non-negotiable for wealth, save for a few rare exceptions
So that's that! Peace out, and God bless you.
